About Mark Updegraff
Technical mind.
Operator’s instinct.
A career built around understanding how things work—from imaging science to buildings, markets, businesses, and the people behind every decision.
The through line
Evidence before assumption.
Mark C. Updegraff moved to Rochester in 1997 to study imaging and photographic technology at Rochester Institute of Technology. He later completed graduate work in color science and built early-career experience with organizations including NASA, Kodak, RIT, and ITT.
In 2010, he shifted his full focus to real estate redevelopment. The analytical habits carried over: study the signal, understand the system, and make decisions from evidence rather than convention.
From transaction to platform
Mark founded and leads Updegraff Group Realty, Updegraff Management, Updegraff Services, and Raze Capital. Across brokerage, management, construction, redevelopment, and investment, the work provides a practical view of the entire property lifecycle.
He is a licensed New York real estate broker and has spent more than 18 years working across Rochester residential, multifamily, luxury, waterfront, mixed-use, commercial, and industrial property.
Rochester, on purpose
Mark’s work is rooted in the belief that better-operated, thoughtfully repositioned real estate can create value for owners while strengthening neighborhoods. He remains engaged in Rochester’s entrepreneurial and business-education community, including Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship.
